All students at Sacred Heart Catholic School take a well-rounded curriculum including Religion, Math, Social Studies, Science, Reading, and English. Sacred Heart Catholic School's curriculum is set by the Diocese of St. Augustine to meet or exceed state and national standards.

Our science program focuses on facts, concepts, and skills. Emphasis is on the practical uses of scientific discovery and how it correlates to everyday life. The program also emphasizes the scientific method, past scientific contributions, and practical applications. Kindergarten through fifth grade is an overview of the different branches of science. Sixth grade focuses on earth and space science, seventh grade does an in-depth study of life science, and eighth grade analyzes physical science.
The kindergarten language arts program focuses on letter recognition, spelling, phonics, and fine-motor skills. A writing portfolio is started in kindergarten and follows each student through eighth grade. These portfolios allow the students and faculty to see the improvement and progression of each student's writing skills as they move through each grade.
In first and second grade, students study reading, literature, spelling, handwriting, vocabulary, and phonics. In grades third through fifth, focus shifts to improving reading comprehension skills with intensified daily work in grammar and vocabulary. In grades sixth through eighth, the focus moves from reading comprehension to literature analysis. Different genres are studied and incorporated in composition, research skills, and oration. The Accelerated Reader program is used in the third through eighth grade to aid in increasing reading comprehension skills. In addition, grammar and vocabulary development continue to be stressed in these grades.
Mathematics is taught in grades pre-kindergarten through eighth with emphasis on understanding concepts, learning basic facts, using computation skills efficiently, and selecting and applying appropriate problem-solving skills. Seventh grade students are taught at three levels: basic course two math for those students requiring a small class with more individual attention from the teacher, standard course two math, and first year pre-algebra for the above average student. Eighth grade students are taught at two levels: first year pre-algebra or algebra for the students of above average proficiency levels.
The Sacred Heart art program is offered in grades pre-kindergarten through the eighth grade. The art program exposes students to many varieties of art media. They learn about a variety of artists, their works, and art from different cultures, which enriches their learning and creates a better-rounded student. Art is incorporated in other subject areas to enhance the learning process by the use of hands-on activities. The art program encourages students to express their creativity, explore their environment, and aids in the development of artistic success in all areas of learning.
The music program focuses on several aspects of music education. Students learn to sing, dance, and play a variety of instruments. In grades four and five, students learn to read music by playing the recorder. The program also enhances knowledge by exposing students to different composers and musical time periods.
The technology program is a comprehensive program that teaches skills that are necessary in today's world. These skills are intensified as the student progresses through the grades.
K-5 students make weekly trips to the technology lab, receiving instruction in keyboarding and basic computer terminology, as well as use of the mouse, printer, and more complex peripherals such as scanners and digital cameras. Students learn to use word processing programs, simultaneously building their typing skills and improving their language skills. They also create original artwork in paint/draw programs and visit teacher-selected Internet sites. By the end of fifth grade, students will be able to create a digital media presentation, to enter data into a spreadsheet, to use a simple programming language to create an interactive story or animation, and to use the Internet as a powerful research tool.
Middle School students will be introduced to the Microsoft Office Suite, Desktop Publishing, Graphic Imaging and Design. They will learn about document creation, formatting, multimedia presentations, file management, and Internet safety. With the introduction to the world of digital media, the areas of story boarding, script writing, photo composition, and sequential still documentary development will be covered. A variety of software applications will be used to accomplish all classroom projects. Projects will integrate regular classroom topics with animation, digital imaging, and use of simple programming language, multimedia, and graphic arts. All grades are project based.
Spanish is taught in all grades. Learning is encouraged through song, repetition, and demonstration. At all grade levels, the Spanish program gives students the opportunity to develop new skills and concepts as they learn vocabulary, common expressions, grammar, conversation, and culture.
Library is offered once a week in grades pre-kindergarten through eighth. Students receive instruction on library skills, research paper writing, study skills, and reading/oral comprehension.
P. E. provides opportunities for each student to develop their physical wellness through the use of physical activity and skill development appropriate to their grade level. Students learn basic skills common to team sports and individual fitness activities.
A part-time guidance counselor visits the classrooms on a regular basis for group instruction and meets with students one-on-one as needed.
